We will be tabling and passing out information on voting in the June 7th primary and gearing up for the November general election, as well as helping people register to vote at outside of the San Leandro main library. Event details: Saturday, May 28, 2022 11 AM to 1 PM PDT 300 Estudillo Ave San Leandro, CA 94577 Sign-up for the event in advance at https://www.mobilize.us/bl22/event/463120/?force_banner=true&share_context=event_details&share_medium=copy_link. Meet Your District Attorney

Image
A project of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of California. What is a DA?  "District attorneys (DAs) are more than just prosecutors. The district attorney’s job is to seek justice in criminal cases, work to prevent crime, and serve as a leader in the diverse communities they represent. The DA is also an elected official. In California, we have 58 elected DAs each representing one of our 58 counties." What makes a DA so powerful?  "District attorneys in California have tremendous power to impact the lives of millions of people, their families, and entire communities. How do DAs serve their community? "DAs a

Watch San Leandro's Assembly District 18 Candidate Forum

If you weren’t able to hop on Zoom this past Saturday, no worries! Because our San Leandro hosting organizations have put up the recording for your convenience and reference. Click over to https://youtu.be/n3IMmOD9m4U to watch the entire forum from introductions through the entire Q&A, as well as access to the side-bar chat conversations! (You can spot yours truly debunking points raised by someone from the audience who supports access to assault weapons.) The recording allows you to skip back and forth with relative ease to parse through each question and every response. Before you cast your ballot for this special election primary by June 29, you should watch the forum. Listen to what the candidates did (and, in some cases, did not) say on a variety of problems posed by the hosting organizations, as well as general inquiries from those in the audience. Here were my top 10 questions to consider when reviewing the candidate’s statements: *** 1. If elected, what specific steps will

2020 General Election in Alameda County: What I’m Voting For

Image
As has become my habit, here are my votes for the 2020 general election, along with reasons and receipts. This will be a long post, so buckle up! (For the tl;dr version, please scroll to the bottom.) For my general overview reference point, please see https://progressivevotersguide.com/california/2020/general/county/alameda and the official Voter Information Guide for Alameda County. For the propositions on the ballot, I am combining my research with LAist.com, SF Gate, MotherJones, and a useful graphic available at https://i.redd.it/t7lqvp58wbr51.jpg . I am also considering individual guides like those by Taina Vargas-Edmond on Facebook. More specific citations are provided in each area. The order of appearance below matches the order of appearance on my ballot. Standard caveats: I have not received in fact or in promise any money from any candidate. I have not received in fact or in promise a vote for a specific interest that would benefit me financially or professionally. I have
